The challenge

Susan and I got to talk 3 months after she launched her blog after it already being in her thoughts for 2 years. As she was new to blogging and having her own business she felt there was such much to learn and she could use some help with that. The main struggles for her were:

  • Her lack in knowledge about SEO

  • Not having a clear direction on where to focus her time and efforts

  • Not having workflows in place

  • She needed more structure for her content planning and strategy

  • How to use social media to gain visibility and drive traffic to her blogs

THe program

Based on the struggles Susan mentioned in our first call and the goals she had a custom program was created.

The overall goals of the weekly calls:

  • Get ideas and guidance on how to drive traffic to the blog

  • What content could be created to drive that traffic

  • The most effective places for this content to be published

  • Create a content plan and use the same topic across channels

  • Work towards creating visibility for May workshops

Month 1: Foundation

  • Work on clarity around the audience and where to find them

  • Evaluate current website traffic

  • Define keywords to include in SEO (page titles, descriptions and blogposts)

  • Create a worksheet to track results of social media and website traffic

Month 2: Marketing strategy

  • Use finding from month 1 to create and implement a social media strategy

  • Set up strategy per channel per call

Month 3: Create May workshop offer

  • Work on creating the offer

  • Strategy to promote the offer

But while Susan was working on the Brand Strategy Questionnaire to dive deeper into elements like her vision, her goals and what succes would look like she realised she did not want to offer workshops. She had been advised by several people this would be a good way to monetise her business and it seemed like a good idea. But while really taking the time to think about her vision she felt it would not be the right thing for her. So in stead of working on the workshops in month 3 we spend on setting up her email marketing program and a free resource for her audience.

The results

After working together for 3 months Susan has achieved some amazing results from having a content strategy that has her posting blog posts, newsletters and social media content regularly, to being contacted for collaborations and an interview via social media as well as quadrupling her website traffic.

Her new goal is to learn all about video creation and editing and I can not wait till she is starting her YouTube channel where she is showing all that Italy has to offer.
